The species of actress most commonly, and I think affectionately, known as the "Scream Queen" sits down with us and speaks her mind in this Tempe Entertainment documentary. Here we see a group women talk honestly about their experiences in the B film industry, with little regrets and no shame, dispelling two myths. One, that in the minds of men these ladies are mindless, and two, that in the minds of women, these ladies are sluts.

Legendary horror vixen Brinke Stevens hosts, while those of you who have seen Zombiegeddon (2003) will no doubt be familiar with Ariauna Albright, Lilith Stabs, and Julie Strain. Debra DeLiso makes her Scream Queen claim to fame with The Slumber Party Massacre, and Brandi Burkett in The Slumber Party Massacre 3 (also in My Boyfriend's Back [1993].) Felissa Rose, while also in Zombiegeddon and Corpses Are Forever, made her debut as just a kid in Sleepaway Camp. Denise Duff vamps her way through the Subspecies series, and Debbie Rochon, amongst almost 100 films to her credit, graces us zombie fans with the likes of Corpses Are Forever, Dead & Rotting, and Mulva: Zombie Ass Kicker. Finally, the cherry on the cake that is this documentary, Judith O'Dea, seems absolutely tickled to be here with us, celebrating her famous role as catatonic Barbara in Night of the Living Dead '68.

Jason Paul Collum, who has also written for Femme Fatales, Alternative Cinema and Fangoria magazines, directs with the forethought and sensitivity of a fan who understands that there's more to these women than is reflected on the celluloid. His other directing credits include the 5 Dark Souls series and the short Julia Wept.

Something To Scream About is entertaining and informative. Though it is not and A-Z academic history on the "Scream Queen" phenomena, it is effective in its specialization. Featuring nine different women, with different backgrounds and different approaches, you might find yourself hoping for more on this one, or that one, whichever are your favorites. We couldn't have asked Bookwalter to cut it any other way, as focusing on any one person would have forced it away from its goal. However, should you want to get more information of any of these women, Tempe has provided on the DVD a list of their websites. So, watch the documentary to whet your appetite, and then get online to find your favorite babe.

Also on this DVD are two short films (both 5 minutes) of Debbie Rochon, which, if you like short films, you'll hate these, but if you like Debbie, they're little gems. Collum's Julia Wept (45 minutes including film, interviews and trailer), starring Brinke, is also included. If you like short films, you'll enjoy this one, and if you like Brinke Stevens, well, you get the picture. In addition to all this, if you're digging on Julie Strain, do not miss the introduction to her sis, Lizzy.

Having gotten to meet most of these women at their Virgin Megastore appearance in February immediately prior to watching this made for a heightened viewing experience. They were all so funny, warm and inviting, without exception. This is a group of women who adore and appreciate their fans as much as they are adored and appreciated by them. This film captures that and will leave you scanning the convention scenes' guest lists to jump at the chance to thank these ladies personally for their contribution to a role in this genre that is every bit as important as an exploding head.
